Rudyard Kipling’s novel Captains Courageous was made into the 1937 film starring Spencer Tracey and Freddie Bartholemew (right). The film brought moviegoers their first look at Gloucester. It wouldn’t be their last.

For centuries, this area has been a favorite of artists, writers, and more recently, filmmakers. Hollywood flocks to Cape Ann for its glorious, luminous skies and breathtaking vistas just as painters have for generations. Numerous films have been made in Gloucester.

Sebastian Junger’s book The Perfect Storm and the hit movie of the same name took Gloucester’s story to the world and brought many visitors here to see the sights & sounds from the movie.

Among many other movies filmed in & around Gloucester & Cape Ann are:
The Proposal, Grown Ups, Blown Away, Mermaids, The Game Plan, Moonlight Mile, The Love Letter, Stuck on You, Author! Author! and The Russians are Coming, the Russians are Coming.

On Television...

Dangerous Jobs, Deadliest Catch, Route 66, Bewitched, Townies, & The Simpsons. The Weather Channel is a frequent visitor, especially during Nor’easters.
