Rudyard Kipling’s novel Captains Courageous was made into the 1937 film
starring Spencer Tracey and Freddie Bartholemew (right). The film
brought moviegoers their first look at Gloucester. It wouldn’t be their
last.
For centuries, this area has been a favorite of artists, writers, and more recently, filmmakers. Hollywood flocks to Cape Ann for its glorious, luminous skies and breathtaking vistas just as painters have for generations. Numerous films have been made in Gloucester.
Sebastian Junger’s book The Perfect Storm and the hit movie of the same name took Gloucester’s story to the world and brought many visitors here to see the sights & sounds from the movie.
