The Downtown Gloucester of Jonathan Bayliss’s Fiction

September 7, 2019 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free

Cape Ann writers Ken Riaf and David Rich will read passages from the novels of Gloucester writer Jonathan Bayliss (1926–2009) highlighting his beloved city’s downtown. Bayliss’s fiction series Gloucesterman includes numerous descriptions of the landscape—geographical, political, and cultural—of “Dogtown” on “Cape Gloucester” in the 1960s and 1970s, with flashbacks to earlier times.

This one-hour program is the start of the first annual conference of the newly formed Jonathan Bayliss Society. Following the reading, at 11:45 am members of the Jonathan Bayliss Society will lead a one-hour walk from the Museum’s courtyard around downtown locations relating to Bayliss’s fiction. The reading and walk are free to the public; no registration necessary.
