Gloucester Stage: Wrestling With Freedom
Phillis Wheatley’s life and friendship comes alive at Gloucester Stage in Jacqui Parker’s new play on February 22 and 23. Freed-slave and famed Boston poet, Wheatley was one of the best-known poets in pre-19th century America. Wrestling with Freedom highlights the friendship between Phillis Wheatley and Obour Tanner, another freed slave woman. Inspired by actual letters written to Obour and poems written by Phillis, this play speaks to the American Revolutionary and struggles of slavery, through two brilliant women’s minds.

Gloucester Stage: Barefoot in the Park
June 7 - June 30 The romantic comedy Barefoot in the Park, award-winning playwright Neil Simon’s longest-running hit, and the tenth longest-running non-musical play in Broadway history, opens Gloucester Stage’s 40th Anniversary season on June 7.
